The Burning is a two-screen installation that investigates narrative, montage, and the shifting construction of cinematic meaning. Fire, seductive, destructive, and elemental unfolds across the screens in hypnotic, looping motion. The dual projection disrupts conventional cinematic sequencing, where a shot’s meaning is determined by its linear position. Instead, viewers are invited to “edit” the work themselves, assembling meaning through the act of looking, as their gaze drifts between the two flames.

The imagery is drawn from found footage, unused and extraneous shots from another narrative project, liberated from their original context and reanimated into new significance. In their repetition and flow, these fragments resist fixed interpretation, opening a meditative space where viewers generate their own associations and narratives. Like staring into fire itself, The Burning becomes a site of drifting thought, where cinematic meaning flickers, collapses, and reforms in the imagination of its audience.
