Video stillCrush, Mosh, Loop, Slice (Coopers XPA reimagined) takes the Australian beer can, an enduring symbol of masculinity, and subjects it to cycles of collapse and renewal. In the video, the can endlessly crushes itself before undoing the act, trapped in an infinite loop of destruction and repair.
The title reflects the technical process of its making: the can was crushed and photographed frame by frame as a stop-motion sequence; the footage was then “moshed” to introduce glitch ruptures, looped to emphasise repetition, and finally sliced into overlapping fragments of forward and reversed motion.
Set to an accompanying guitar score by Dwayne Labbe, the work becomes a performative deconstruction of cultural iconography, turning a disposable object into a fractured spectacle of rhythm, violence, and return.
